MJ Customworks is built on the foundation of three generations of craftsmanship, innovation, and a deep-rooted passion for building homes and unique spaces. With over 25 years of experience and an Architecture degree from Illinois Institute of Technology, founder Matt Coad brings a blend of design experience and hands-on skill to every project.
Matt began working alongside his father at age 14, learning the fundamentals of strong, lasting construction before carving his own path into the world of restaurants and bar remodels. Immersed in bold designs and themed environments, he mastered techniques for crafting architectural details and custom furniture that stand out, and stand up, to daily use.
Later, as head of a custom shop at a reclaimed wood company, Matt deepend his knowledge of furniture construction and became an expert in epoxy work, designing one-of-a-kind pieces from domestic and exotic woods, as well as salvaged materials. In 2023, he launched MJ Customworks to break free from limitations and explore a wider range of materials, styles and creative possibilities.
Today, MJ Customworks blends tradition with innovation - delivering high-end residential, commercial, and outdoor spaces and projects that reflect craftsmanship, creativity and character.
